CPS: More freshmen on track to graduate than last year

CPS launches new student-designed logo
A new logo was created by CPS students as part of a city-wide contest and represents children growing and ultimately graduating.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Mayor Emanuel and Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett are expected to announce that more CPS high school freshmen are on track to graduate.

The on-track rate is at a record 84.1 percent, up 2.6 percent from last year. A statement from the mayor's office said since Emanuel became mayor in 2011, the freshman on-track rate has increased 11.5 percent.

CPS' graduation rate in 2014 was the highest the district has seen to date, at 69.4 percent.
