CHICAGO - The very first babies of the New Year have arrived in the Chicago area.
Baby Janae Davis made her way into the world at 12:08 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
"Her coming in on the first means we'll probably have many, many blessings that come through in 2018 so can't sit to find out what those blessings are," said mother Dana Brown.
Measuring nine pounds zero ounces and 20 inches long, baby Janae wasn't expected until January 10 and this is how her dad heard she was coming.
Janae has a 6-year-old big sister named Jayda. They met Monday morning, the bond already unbreakable.
Janae was born at Advocate Christ's state of the art Women and Infants Birthing Center. Since the building opened, the birthing center has delivered more than 8,100 babies.
"The nursery is wonderful and we can do crash C-sections in less than 5 minutes," said Dr. Yesim Gulecyuz.
Baby Maren McGrory arrived at 12:10 a.m. at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Parents Mikela and Matt celebrate their Irish heritage with the baby's name. "Maren" means "the sea." They hope their daughter will love swimming as much as they do. It's the fourth child for the family.
At Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, baby Aryansh was born to mom Anusha Ankathi and dad Rakesh Kotla at 12:32 a.m.
Baby Agustin was born at 12:57 a.m. at Swedish Covenant Hospital to the Morales family.
At Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Drew Smith was born to parents Katie and Jason at 2:19 a.m. Katie Smith works as a nurse and educator at the hospital.
