ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - ABC7 Eyewitness News has obtained the frantic 911 calls made during a chainsaw attack in a parking lot in suburban Arlington Heights on Monday.
The chainsaw attack triggered a flurry of 911 calls - one after another. Some callers were calm, others full of emotion, including the victim's girlfriend. Prosecutors say the two of them had just left the building together.
"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh. (Ma'am I don't understand you.) Oh my gosh, oh my gosh. (Ma'am, I don't understand you.) Oh my gosh!" a woman can be heard saying on the 911 call.
Police identified that woman as the estranged wife of the chainsaw-wielding suspect: Jose Jaimes-Jimenez, who is now being held on $2.5 million bail.
"There is a guy with a chainsaw chasing someone else outside in the parking lot. (He has a chainsaw?) Yes," the caller said.
Prosecutors said Jaimes-Jimenez became enraged when he saw his wife and her boyfriend leave the building where they both work. He targeted them in the Arlington Heights parking lot Monday. First, crashing his blue Chevy into the victim's vehicle and then he pulled out a chainsaw.
"I just saw him taking off right now, running around with a chainsaw, and running after my co-worker," another caller told 911.
Prosecutors said Jaimes-Jimenez sawed the victim's left forearm, which was left dangling by a single tendon and some skin.
"We have an employee completely bleeding from head to toe. Something happened outside, we're not sure what happened," the caller said.
Meantime, callers tell 911 dispatcher that the suspect is undressing.
"He's in his boxer shorts? (Boxer shorts? No shirt and boxer shorts?) Yeah," the caller told the dispatcher.
The victim, bleeding profusely, makes his way inside the building, where people try to help him.
"Is he awake? (He is awake.) Is he breathing? Is he breathing okay? (He is breathing okay)," the caller said.
Jaimes-Jimenz faces several felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder.
Prosecutors said he did admit to police that he crashed his car and cut the victim with a chainsaw. He said he wanted to hurt the victim and send a message.
