Sibling rivalry is an issue that pushes just about every parent's button. Find out how to encourage a positive relationship between brothers and sisters.

To lessen sibling rivalry:

  • Focus on what children need, not how much they have
  • Allow appropriate expression of negative feelings about siblings
  • Create opportunities for child to hear good things

    What parents should avoid:

  • Praising in the presence of siblings
  • Comparisons (even positive ones are not helpful)
  • Rescuing
  • Forced sharing
