THIRD ANNUAL POLAR ADVENTURE DAYS RETURN TO NORTHERLY ISLAND

Nature park offers three days of family fun throughout the winter

The Chicago Park District invites families to experience the third annual Polar Adventure Days, an admission-free event taking place on three Saturdays, Dec. 15, Jan. 19 and Feb. 23, from noon-4 p.m. at Northerly Island, 1400 S. Lynn White Dr., on the Museum Campus.

"Polar Adventure Days give people of all ages the opportunity to learn about nature and to explore Northerly Island," said Timothy J. Mitchell, General Superintendent and CEO of the Chicago Park District.

Visitors will have the opportunity to come face-to-face with live animals, engage in winter activities, watch ice sculpture carvings, and create nature-inspired crafts at Polar Adventure Days.

The following features and activities will be available at each Polar Adventure Day:

  • The first 500 visitors receive a complimentary Polar Adventure Day mug filled with hot chocolate. Limit one per person.

  • Nadeau's Ice Sculpture carves magical creations on site.

  • Siberian huskies will be present and a discussion will be held on the Iditarod dog sled race.

  • Various live animals will be on site to discover.

  • Free snowshoe rental for exploration of the island if there is snow.

  • Nature craft tables for creating gifts inspired by the season.

  • Live entertainment including winter storytelling.
