Woman struck and killed by CTA bus

January 1, 2008

Officials believe the victim, identified as 59-year-old Ludwika Szynalik, had just gotten off the 152 Addison bus. She was attempting to get her bicycle off of the front rack of the bus when the driver apparently struck her.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says Szynalik was pronounced dead hours later at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Police have cited the driver for the accident.

Chicago police say driver Martin Stark has been cited for negligent driving and failure to exhibit due care for a pedestrian on the roadway.

A CTA spokeswoman says drug and alcohol tests were ordered for the driver, who won't be allowed to drive a bus again until an investigation is complete.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
