Firefighters arrived and went inside where they found a woman between 75-and-80 years old on the floor.
Firefighters at the scene believe they've identified the cause.
"We believe careless use of cooking material. Everything was contained to the kitchen area. No place else burned," said David Walton, Chicago Fire Dept.
No one else was in the home. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
