A fire in a coach house killed a 73-year-old man in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood late Thursday night. Thick smoke poured from the home on West Evergreen and Washtenaw when crews first arrived. They found James Davis unconscious inside.

Paramedics rushed Davis to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It's not clear what sparked the fire. But officials say there were no working smoke detectors inside the home.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
