CHICAGO

Visitation was held Tuesday afternoon at Saint Columbanus Church on East 71st. Stroger died on Friday, nearly two years after suffering a devastating stroke. He was the first African-American to head the county board. His son Todd went on to replace him.

Tuesday, County Commissioner William Beavers talked about how Todd and the rest of the Stroger family is coping with the loss.

"He's doing pretty good. I think he expected it. You know, the father'd been sick a long time, and I think he expected it. It's just hard on the mother," said Beavers.

The funeral is Wednesday morning at 11 at Saint Felicitas church on East 84th Street.
