On the fast track since 7

"I've always loved it," said Hamilton. "It's been a thrill. It's a rush. It's so much excitement. I've always loved it. You're gonna be a part of racing and going fast, basically."

Hamilton purchased a 1977 Chevy Monza drag racer. Her first race was in April of 2002.

"The first race initially I was nervous but once I cranked up the car...it was almost like second nature it didn't bother me any more after that," said Hamilton.

In advance of the spring racing season, the race car is now in a garage where she has extracted the engine for maintenance. Remembering her daughter's interest in racing as a child, Izora Hamilton has become her biggest fan.

"Girls don't do that. Now it's totally different. Girls can do anything and I tell her whatever you want to do, you can do it," said Hamilton's mother.

Since she started racing in 6 years ago, Hamilton has competed more than 300 times in six states.

"I love it," said Hamilton. "I love it. I don't think there's anything else that at this point I could accomplish other than what I've done so far."
