Postive tuberculosis test for Sears employee

January 27, 2008 8:02:57 PM PST
An employee at the Sears headquarters in Hoffman Estates has tested positive for tuberculosis.

The employee is being treated and is recovering.

People with tuberculosis have a persistent cough and spread the illness through respiratory droplets, but the disease is harder to spread than a cold.

The Cook County Department of Public Health has tested 40 other Sears headquarters employees, but it will not be known until next week whether any of them have tuberculosis.
