The state of Illinois has taken steps to honor fallen members of the military by helping their children get an education. The Fallen Heroes scholarship fund was announced Sunday by state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and Department of Veteran Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth. The scholarship is meant for children whose parents died serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. They are eligible for a $2500 scholarship fund. "I hope it will help children focus on the future, work hard and make their families proud. The scholarships are a great way to honor our fallen heroes and the sacrifices they have made for this country," said Giannoulias. The state will manage the fund and distribute the money to the schools of the student's choice. Fifteen children have already been signed up.
