The Chicago Water Department says major work to repair damage caused by a big North Side water main break should be done by the end of the coming week.

The sidewalk is expected to be open by Tuesday and the street a few days later.

The break happened Tuesday. About 80 feet of an old brick sewer collapsed, flooding the area and creating a huge hole on Montrose Avenue.

The old sewer is being replaced by a 42-inch concrete pipe.
