Woman, toddler shot in carjacking

GARY, IN The victims are a mother and child. The child, who is about a year old, was airlifted to the hospital. The mother was rushed to the emergency room by ambulance.

The red SUV was found abandoned at 17th and Virginia with the toddler inside. The toddler may have had a gunshot wound to the head. The mother was shot in the stomach in the 500 block of E. 21st, where the carjacking started.

No one is reportedly in custody yet. However, ABC7 crews did see someone taken away in handcuffs near the scene.

It's unknown whether the carjacking was random or targeted.
