Supplements could relieve cancer treatment side effects

Researchers studied 50 people who had advanced pancreatic cancer and were receiving chemotherapy. The participants were already taking narcotic drugs and anti-inflammatory agents to help control pain. Thirty-six participants were also given green tea extract, melatonin and high-potency multi-vitamins.

Within six months most of those who also took the vitamin supplements reported their pain had improved and fatigue lessened. Most of those who did not take the supplements found their symptoms worsened.

The findings were reported at the annual Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium.
