Drug-resistant flu appearing locally

Health officials say ten people tested positive for a strain of flu that cannot be treated with Tamiflu, which is the most common medication for the flu. However, other drugs are effective.

That same strain is also resistant to this year's flu vaccines, so they may not protect you either.

Officials say most of the cases are from an outbreak at a healthcare facility which has not being identified.

A health alert has gone out to doctors and hospitals suggesting flu patients who are in intensive care receive a combination of drugs until the strain of their virus can be determined.
