Cell phone companies to end analog service

Starting Tuesday, most major cellular companies will shut down their analog cell phone service.

Analog phones are usually more than five years old, and many have been collected by agencies that distribute them to elderly residents, domestic violence victims and others in need.

The Mt. Prospect Police Department has issued hundreds of free emergency phones. Officials say they will try to replace analog phones with digital ones, but there may not be enough. So, people are asked to donate old digital cell phones to Mt. Prospect's Crime Prevention unit.
