Essay contest winners get free computers

The students are winners of a statewide essay contest organized by Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn's office.

When the contest was first announced, just three laptops were being given away. Due to the overwhelming response, the contest was expanded to allow 33 students to be selected to receive a new computer.

" Today we're announcing the winners of the essay contest, but in many respects, every child who entered the contest is a winner. We want to make sure we work with their schools to see as many schools as possible get laptops to help children learn," Quinn said.

Students had to write an essay answering the question, "How can a laptop change your community and change the world?"
