Police and I-DOT crews are blocking the outbound lanes at 103rd Street. They are planning to reopen the lanes after they put some salt on the expressway.
"We have a problem with the moisture and the extreme cold and overnight you don't have a lot of traffic so the salt is not getting ground into the pavement. We are not even going to get into to the point where it stays moist instead of freezing up. They are planning to pace traffic. They are getting some salt down. They are going to start moving traffic but they want a truck in front of them so they slow down because if they speed up they are going to have problems. They are going to spin out," said Mike Claffey, I-DOT.
The closure is creating traffic headaches for commuters. Traffic is backed up to 87th on the Dan Ryan.
