Firefighters rescued a woman from a burning apartment in west suburban Westmont.

The fire started around 11 p.m. Wednesday night. Firefighters had to force their way into an apartment and found the fire burning in the living room.

"They did a search of the apartment and there they found a woman in her bedroom. They then were able to carry her out and bring her over to the paramedics," said Chief Frank Trout, Westmont Fire Dept.

Emergency crews resuscitated the woman. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and is in serious condition.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
