Man convicted of killing family eligible for death penalty

WHEATON, Ill. The decision means the jury on Friday will begin considering whether Eric Hanson should be executed or spend the rest of his life in prison.

The same jury deliberated for about three hours Wednesday before finding the 31-year-old Hanson guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in the 2005 slayings of his parents, sister and brother-in-law.

During the trial, prosecutors contended that Hanson committed the murders to hide that he'd stolen thousands of dollars from his parents.
