Study: Americans losing sleep

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says all this sleeplessness can be a nightmare for your mental and physical health. The CDC surveyed almost 20,000 adults and found 38 percent said they did not get enough sleep in seven or more days in the prior month. It also found the percentage of adults reporting 6 hours or less a night increased from 1985 to 2006.

It's recommended adults get 7-to-7 hours of sleep a night, and children 5-12 9-to-11 hours, while those 11-to-17 need up to 9 1/2 hours.
