Tea might benefit diabetics

Scottish scientists say there are naturally occurring components in black tea that act as an insulin substitute. The finding is reported in the journal Aging Cell.

But researchers caution that diabetics should not stop taking medications and rush to drink large amounts of tea. They say there is a lot that still needs to be learned about this possible beneficial effect.

And, researchers say, they now have to see whether they can translate their findings into something useful for human health.
