Chicago to install more red light cameras

CHICAGO Right now, they're installed at 69 city intersections, but plans are in the works for six more red-light cameras.

Comment: What do you think of the red-light cameras?

The new intersections include:

  • 47th and Kedzie
  • 47th and Cicero
  • Belmont and Lake Shore Drive
  • Belmont and Halsted
  • 79th and Halsted
  • 115th and Halsted
  • The Daley administration recently signed a $52 million contract that could add up to 220 more cameras by the year 2012. The funding will also help set up a Web site where offenders can watch video clips of their vehicles going through the lights.

The city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications says the number of red-light violations at camera-equipped spots has been cut by more than half.
