Police: Toddler wasn't snatched with stolen car

CHICAGO The car was stolen from the gasoline station (located at 87th and Cottage Grove Avenue) late Monday. However, police say the toddler was not in the car. At the time the car was stolen, the child was at home.

The owner of the stolen car left the vehicle running while inside the gas station when an offender allegedly hopped into the car and headed west from the station. The vehicle was subsequently recovered.

The 24-year-old father of the toddler is now in custody pending charges for filing a false police report. The offender who stole the vehicle remains at large.
