A man from Gary, Indiana faces several charges after leading police on a high-speed pursuit. The chase began in Calumet City near the Indiana border Thursday. Police were responding to reports of a suspicious car. But when they approached a parked Chevy, the driver took off.

With dozens of police cars in pursuit, police say 30-year-old Lavander Charleston of Gary drove onto the Dan Ryan Expressway. The chased continued on the Stevenson and then onto the Tri-State Tollway. It ended after police say Charleston crashed into a gas pump at the Hinsdale oasis on the Tri-State.

Charleston is charged with fleeing and eluding police, driving with a revoked driver's license and having drug paraphenalia.
