DEKALB --Northern Illinois University expects enrollment numbers to stay the same even after last month's deadly shootings. This year more than 5,000 new and transfer students started at NIU. But after the February 14 tragedy that left five people dead, the admissions team sent out e-mails and letters to prospective students assuring students that the DeKalb campus is safe.
And admissions officials say few applicants have said that would keep them from attending NIU.
This fall, enrollment is expected to be about the same as last year.
