Originally, the Friday before the weekend event was a time for pilots to practice their routines along the lakefront. Now, the city has made Friday the formal opening of a three-day show.
This year's show will begin on Friday, August 15, along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street. It starts at 3 p.m. with the Blue Angels, followed by the US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.
The show runs through Sunday, August 17.
