Anti-biotics are prescribed for people who have been ill for more than seven days with a bacterial infection. But a new study published in the medical journal The Lancet shows some of those diagnoses may be viral infections, which aren't treated by anti-biotics, and only 1 in 15 people with sinusitis are cured by anti-biotics.
Researchers say this shows anti-biotics are over-prescribed and could be contributing to anti-biotic resistance.
