Retired judge who investigated torture dies

CHICAGO Justice Edward Egan of the Illinois Appellate Court was 85. He passed away Wednesday night at his Chicago home following a long fight with cancer.

Justice Egan was one of two special prosecutors who investigated former Chicago police commander Jon Burge. He was fired after it was revealed that he led a group of officers in torturing crime suspects in the 1980s.

Egan's report revealed improprieties but led to no indictments against the officers due to the statute of limitations.

His funeral will be held Saturday.
