Elderly woman critically injured in fire

CHICAGO A police officer who was on patrol spotted the burning home on North Drake near Chicago in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. He pulled a 70-year-old woman out of the house.

"We made entry into the building to find an elderly lady inside the front porch area. She had severe burns to her face," said Dan Fontaine, Chicago Police Department.

"When we came in, there was a lot of smoke coming out of the house, the apartment. We were just trying to get out because he was saying that one of our officers was in there trying to get someone out," said Cory Deanes, Chicago Police Department.

The woman is hospitalized in critical condition. An investigation is now under way into what sparked this fire.
