Drivers file claims for pothole damages

CHICAGO Repair crews have been busy, patching more than 100,000 potholes since December 1 in what Mayor Daley is calling 'The Year of the Pothole." That's more than twice as many potholes as last year.

According to city officials, the 'damage to vehicle' claims filed with the city clerk's office has almost tripled. From September to March last year, 486 claims were filed. So far this year, more than 1,300 have been filed.

The city usually pays half of damage claims.
