Students from two Chicago high schools affected by recent gun violence pulled together this weekend for something positive. They watched Final Four basketball on big screen televisions set up in school auditoriums. The games featured graduates from both schools -- Simeon Career Academy and Crane High School. Derrick Rose is a Simeon alum and plays for Memphis and Sherron Collins attended Crane High School and plays for Kansas.
Last Saturday, 18-year-old Chavez Clarke, who had been taking classes at Simeon, was gunned down in the school's parking lot.
Last month, Crane student Ruben Ivy was also killed.
Watching the games was a great way for students and adults to focus on something else.
Many students will undoubtedly be watching again Monday night when Kansas and Memphis play each other.
