Diabetics with heart disease may be able to reverse their condition with some aggressive treatment.

New research shows that lowering bad cholesterol levels and blood pressure can actually fix damage to the arteries in middle age adults with diabetes. The three-year study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association followed nearly 400 Native Americans for three years. Those who had the aggressive treatment saw the most improvement.

But doctors say they still need to resolve the debate over how low to go with cholesterol and blood pressure levels.
