2,500 Homewood trees to be felled

Thousands of trees in south suburban Homewood will soon be cut down. It's all because of the destructive emerald ash borer. Once infected with the bug, ash trees typically begin declining.

A village arborist says cutting down the trees now is a preemptive strike because dead trees become a liability issue.

The plan is to replace the trees over the next 12 years.
