Settlement in 2006 Blue Line derailment

An 82-year-old woman has accepted a $1.25 million settlement from injuries she suffered in a Blue Line derailment back in July of 2006.

Elfa Lari fell from a catwalk onto the tracks below while evacuating a train. Her attorney says she suffered a ruptured spleen, broken ribs, among other complications.

Dozens of other lawsuits from other passengers who were hurt on that summer day are still pending.

The National Transportation Safety Board blamed ineffective management of track maintenance for the derailment.
