Body pulled from Lake Michigan

Fire crews responded about 8:05 a.m. to 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive for a person in Lake Michigan, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight, correcting an earlier address given on Lake Shore Drive.

A female who was pulled from the water was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was dead on arrival, according to Knight.

Central District police Capt. Joe Vaclavic said someone from Adler Planetarium called to report a body floating in the water. Police Marine Unit crews pulled a female, not believed to be a child, from the water and she was taken to Northwestern, according to the captain. Articles of clothing were found near the shore, but it was not known if they were hers immediately, the captain said.

About 8:20 a.m. the body was pulled from the water, according to Police Marine Unit officer Kevin Bahr.

Emergency crews were on their way to Queen's Landing to bring the body in, according to Bahr at 8:25 a.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office was not notified as of 8:32 a.m.

Queen's Landing, 450 S. Lake Shore Dr., is located near Buckingham Fountain.
