The offenders call victims on the telephone pretending to be law enforcement officials. Then they say counterfeiters have targeted one of their relatives and ask for the victim's help. In all the incidents, police say, the offenders direct the victims to withdraw a large amount of money from their bank account and later turn it over to the offender to help in a phony police investigation.
