Wisconsin officials investigate 911 call

Investigators in Wisconsin are trying to figure out why help was not sent when a college student called 911 before she was murdered.

Police say twenty-one year-old Brittany Zimmerman called 911 from her cell phone just before she was stabbed and beaten to death in her apartment. But the dispatcher says she did not hear anything on the line and answered another call. Zimmerman died shortly after she made the call. The 911 director says the call is under review but he does not know why the dispatcher didn't call back or notify police.

"The 911 center has notified MPD that it is willing to immediately dispatch these type of calls," said an official.

"It would be accurate to state there is evidence contained in call which should have resulted in a Madison police officer being dispatched," said a police officer.

Police believe the murder was random. Zimmerman might have been killed during a break-in. Police do not have any suspects in custody.
