Cook Co. public defender to keep job
CHICAGO A circuit court judge Friday afternoon issued a restraining order that will temporarily block county board president Todd Stroger from firing Burnette.
The two men are in a court fight over hiring in the public defender's office.
Burnette claims that's why Stroger wants him out, but Stroger says the issue is about job performance.
The ruling means that a county board hearing on Burnette's future set for next Wednesday is now off.
Stroger's lawyers say they'll appeal the decision.
