Police: Man beat girl with hammer for snoring

NEW CASTLE, Ind. A court document states that 46-year-old Charles A. Williamson struck the 14-year-old girl four or five times with the wooden handle of a claw hammer.

Williamson is an officer at the New Castle Correctional Facility.

He is charged with two counts of battery. He also faced one count of criminal confinement after the girl complained she had been handcuffed to her bed.

A message at a number listed under his name said the phone was disconnected.

Williamson denied hitting the victim.

The girl's mother, 42-year-old Bobbi Jo Davis, has also been charged with one count of neglect. She apparently witnessed the beating at her home in new castle.

Police weren't called until the next day when the girl arrived at school and her facial injuries were noticed. The girl is now recovering and has been placed in foster care.
