Chicago scores in the middle of the pack when it comes to a national survey of cardiac health.

The study of heart-friendly cities by the American Heart Association ranks our region as 15th out of 38 urban centers in America.

Chicago was recognized as a standout in the areas of diabetes diagnosis and passage of smoke-free legislation. Chicago also earned high marks for the number of cardiologist's per capita. Also, women in the Chicago area were found to be regular exercisers which contributed to an overall low obesity rate in the city.

The No. 1 heart friendly living city is Minneapolis-St. Paul.
