WESTMONT --A garage has collapsed, claiming the life of a west suburban man. The accident happened just before 11 o'clock Friday morning in Westmont. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Dino Turko from Downers Grove. Police say it appears his death was accidental. This happened at a home on the 300 block of South Lincoln. Police responded to a report that a man was caught under a garage that had collapsed. When officers arrived, they found Turko's body. Police say he was dead by the time they arrived. He does not live in the home where he was working. He was a private contractor. He and another man had been hired to work on the garage for the last couple of weeks. Turko grew up in the area. Family and friends say he was both hard working and easygoing. "Very mild mannered, very pleasant, very upbeat type of person, did a lot of odd jobs. He worked a number of places. I can't say enough about him. He was a very nice person," said Charlie Janek, family friend. No one else was injured or killed in the collapse. Westmont police and fire departments are investigating along with the DuPage County Coroner's Office. This is not being investigated as a homicide.
