Squad cars restricted to Kane County

The decision by Sheriff Pat Perez is not sitting well with some of his employees. Many deputies live outside the county, and in recent years, have driven their cars home at the end of their shifts, which has been the policy since 1996. The idea is that parking the cars in a deputy's neighborhood may prevent crime.

But, Perez says his department has to do something to control costs as gas prices continue to soar.
