Nighttime Red Line reroutes begin Tuesday

The reroutes will begin 9 p.m. Tuesday and last through 5 a.m. Wednesday. The nighttime reroute will be repeated Wednesday and Thursday nights, according to a release from the CTA.

Northbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Cermak-Chinatown station and the Fullerton station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks during these hours.

One of the elevated stations that northbound Red Line trains will operate on during these hours, Merchandise Mart, is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., the release said.

Commuters who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Those who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to access northbound Red Line stains at the State/Lake elevated station.

Northbound riders who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Fullerton station and board a southbound Red Line train. Southbound Red Line service is not affected by these reroutes.

Riders are asked to allow extra time for travel while the reroutes is in effect.
