The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the move. The next step is a Thursday, June 5, vote by the Chicago City Council Zoning Committee. Last Tuesday the committee deferred a vote, allegedly because it lacked a quorum.
Museum opponents claim the administration deferred the issue because it didn't have enough votes to pass it.
42nd Ward Ald. Brendan Reilly, a first-term independent alderman who represents the area, strongly opposes the move, and architect Mark Sexton strongly supports it.
