The purpose of the summit is to help former wrongdoers expunge their conviction from their records. The idea is to help them get a second chance in life, to help them get a job, housing, etc. All this is much easier if they don't have a criminal record.
And if they become wage-earners, they pay taxes and help society. If they return to prison, it costs the taxpayers $26,000 a year to keep them there.
Brown is passionate about this. She has hosted such a summit before, and says thousands of men and women have come to see about expunging their criminal past, and getting a fresh start in life.
