June 1, 2008: Dorothy Brown, clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County

Other sponsors include the Cook County Bar Association, Chicago Police, Illinois State Police, Cook County State's Attorney Dick Devin, and Chicago Public Schools.

The purpose of the summit is to help former wrongdoers expunge their conviction from their records. The idea is to help them get a second chance in life, to help them get a job, housing, etc. All this is much easier if they don't have a criminal record.

And if they become wage-earners, they pay taxes and help society. If they return to prison, it costs the taxpayers $26,000 a year to keep them there.

Brown is passionate about this. She has hosted such a summit before, and says thousands of men and women have come to see about expunging their criminal past, and getting a fresh start in life.
