Scientists say what was most striking in this study on mice was how the Resveratrol blocked the decline in heart function typically associated with aging. However, you would have to drink literally gallons of wine, and that's not recommended. But the hope is scientists will be able to develop something that would mimic these effects in humans.
A new study finds that Resveratrol, a natural compound found in red wine, may protect the heart against the effects of the aging process. The effects described in the PLoS ONE journal appeared to mimic those produced by eating a very low calorie diet known to prolong life.
