A semi jackknifed on the Tri-State Spur just west of the Edens Expressway after colliding with three other semis and three cars.The crash stopped traffic cold on the Tri-State Spur during the evening commute. Eastbound lanes remained blocked by the crash, but the westbound reopened soon after. All lanes were expected to be open by 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Two people were seriously injured. One of them, a semi driver, was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital. Two other people were also injured less seriuosly.
The overturned truck spilled mustard onto the roadway just east of Waukegan Road in Northbrook. That liquid was not immediately identified, so HAZMAT crews were called in to clean it up.
