The Midwest Light of Human Rights Award went to Melville Washburn, a partner at the Sidley Austin Law Firm. Washburn was recognized for his work, especially for people in immigration detention.

At a luncheon Tuesday at the Palmer House Hilton, honorees included the Chicago Community Trust, the Chicago Public Library, Chicago Public Radio, the Chicago Reporter and WTTW television for their work on the Chicago Matters: Beyond Borders multi-media series.
